Aloe Vera Juice and Its Impact on the Immune System
Aloe vera, a succulent plant known for its medicinal properties, has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. One of the popular forms of aloe consumption is through aloe juice. This article explores whether aloe juice can significantly boost the immune system and improve overall health.
Aloe vera juice is rich in antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and minerals like zinc (Chen et al., 2012). Antioxidants play a crucial role in protecting the body from oxidative stress and cell damage. By strengthening the immune system's ability to fight off harmful pathogens, antioxidants contribute to overall health maintenance and disease prevention.
Aloe vera contains several active compounds that are known to support the immune system. These include acemannan, a complex carbohydrate believed to stimulate the immune system's white blood cells (Jafari et al., 2016), and polyphenols, which have been shown to enhance immune function by modulating inflammatory responses (Mansour-Asl et al., 2014).
